Campus Life
All Aravind centers offer training programmes, hence they are well equipped to facilitate learning. For those seeking to acquire clinical skills, in addition to well-equipped classrooms, there are adequate facilities for direct and experiential learning. Most diagnostic and surgical equipment such as slit lamps, indirect ophthalmoscopes, operating microscopes, and laboratory microscopes have observerscopes, video or still cameras attached. At Madurai, 3-dimensional video recording and playback system allows surgical trainees to get an enhanced realistic view of the procedures.

Surgical training is imparted in special training wet lab using animal eyes with specific teaching microscopes. Wet labs are equipped with the state-of-the-art simulators and have a significant collection of surgical videos.

All Aravind classrooms are comfortable and well-equipped with advanced teaching technology and enable interaction with the faculty. The classrooms at LAICO allow for flexible layouts, group discussions, case presentations and active interaction. Audience response systems have been introduced to enable participant feedback, opinion gathering and instant training evaluation.

Online resources
Aurosiksha is a recent online teaching portal that holds presentations by experts. Aurosiksha’s lecture series are a collection of journal club presentations and guest lectures.

Kolam is an online discussion forum that allows trainees and alumni to stay connected. It allows sharing of resources, interaction with faculty and fellow participants.

Grand Rounds
Aravind Grand Rounds is a regular weekly feature. Cutting edge teleconference facilities allow all the Aravind Centres to be connected. This draws excellent presentations from Aravind trainees and regularly features guest lectures from experts invited from around the world.

All centers have well-equipped libraries. The libraries boast of a comprehensive collection of books, journals and other media on all specialties of the eye as well as management and community ophthalmology. Besides this, the library offers excellent user support which enables trainees and researchers access to relevant information through a web based platform, the Green Stone Digital Library. Trainees may also use the library’s computer stations that are equipped with high-speed broadband internet.

While at Aravind…
The Aravind Institutions strive to be patient-centric and the organization has developed a strong culture of discipline and compassion. Trainees at Aravind are required to follow a simple dress code.

We recommend that all trainees take a look at Vanakkam – a guidebook to South India and Aravind. As you prepare for your travel to India and to the Aravind destinations, ‘Vanakkam’ will provide you with detailed information on what to expect when you arrive. This includes travel arrangements, living conditions, local weather and local food, as well as information on sightseeing and restaurants in the cities where the Aravind facilities are located.

Each Aravind campus has a unique way to take time off once in a while to bring all employees and trainees from different cadres together – through competitions to showcase different talents, celebrating local festivals, cultural evenings, motivational lectures etc.

International Trainees
All foreign trainees are required to get a Visa to enter India. Please go through the pre-arrival guidelines that will help you prepare for a hassle-free time here. Foreign trainees may be required to register with the local police upon arrival. See the guidelines to prepare for this. Contact your course coordinator to assist you in this.

Trainee Accommodation
On site accommodation facilities, with catering services, are available within the campus at all our centers. The type of facilities offered are different at each center. PG Resident Quarters are available at all centers for the trainees. Short term trainees to Madurai can opt to stay at Inspiration - the international trainees hostel.
