The Indian Eye Research Group (IERG) - ARVO - INDIA annual meeting is a major forum for cutting-edge eye research across the country and provides a platform for interaction between basic researchers and clinicians. The 24th annual meeting of the Indian Eye Research Group will be held at Aravind Medical Research Foundation, Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Aravind Eye Care System (AECS) is an umbrella organization comprising of components which include clinical care (Aravind Eye Hospitals), training (Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology), research (Aravind Medical Research Foundation) and ophthalmic manufacturing (Aurolab). AECS aims to integrate all these diversified components to achieve its mission of eliminating needless blindness globally. Aravind Medical Research Foundation encompasses the departments of Molecular Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Stem Cell Biology, Proteomics, Bioinformatics and Ocular Pharmacology. The institute has state-of-the-art facility for ophthalmic research and the research activities reflect the commitment of Aravind to find new ways to reduce the burden of blindness. The progress made in the basic research has been translated for patient care through the establishment of a genetic testing centre for retinoblastoma, genetic counselling for albinism and transplantation of stem cell rich bioengineered corneal epithelial stem cells for corneal surface reconstruction in patients with limbal stem cell deficiency.
